sarswimmer95 So here's a question for all...If you exceed rotor limitations (i.e. 107-114% Nr for 5 seconds on a bell 206B) will you just cause structural damage to the vertical through bolt OR will you actually sling a rotor blade?  There are a few interesting school...  moreSo here's a question for all...If you exceed rotor limitations (i.e. 107-114% Nr for 5 seconds on a bell 206B) will you just cause structural damage to the vertical through bolt OR will you actually sling a rotor blade?  There are a few interesting schools of thought over here on the military side.  Personally, Im not going to chance slinging a rotor blade.  Thanks!

sarswimmer95 cool. no limits were exceeded so it was more of a theoretical question. so you are saying the blades would come apart before the vert. bolts would let go?

Keith58 I have had a 58D at 125 for about 2-3 secs. I have never felt an aircraft shake so much. I can't imagine all the damage that is being done if you exceed the time limit. I would think transmission, driveshafts and blades all around would be affected.

sarswimmer95 All right all you 206b/c drivers!  What do you think...is it harder to fly the 206 than the Schweizer 300Cbi?  I start flying the 206b and C models on June 9th!  Thanks!

fly911 I would have to say the 300 is more stable in a hover. But the 206 is such fun to fly that you will enjoy the transition. In forward flight, the 206 has more of an enclosed feeling compared to the 300, and about as stable as the 300.

The fully articulated head and three bladed system offer more stability in all phases of flight. It is also very soldid and responsive due to direct linkage. The 206 has an ever so slight lag (due to hydraulics?), yet is very sensitive. Also, power management is a little different in the 206 as it is a turbine (I know you know this, but it opens a whole new set of complications like power lag if you raise or lower the collective too quickly). I only have an hour or so in a jetranger but those are the things I noticed.  less

Almost the same airframe but twice the blades.

    Hello all,

My name is Chris and I am so glad I found this website...finally a site for pilots! Anyway I am a semi-low time pilot, both fixed and rotary wing (obviously more into helos than planes.) I am currently in flight school for the Coast Guard learning how to fly again, and it is such a slow process...approxmately 2 years. Anyway, trying to find helicopters to rent and fly (Schweizer 300's) to stay current. There arent very many on the Florida panhandle. Enough about me! Hope to talk to you soon!
