I have not helped anyone before that was doing "high school-to-flight school", but know plenty of people that have. I will talk to them for som more info. I'll shoot you a link that will give you a good running start. Don't approach your recruiter until you have exhausted all of your research through credible sites. The first thing he/she is going to try to do is tell you that it can't be done. Like I said, I fly with quite a few people that have done it. The second thing he is going to do is try to get you to enlist for something else first for a few years. I'm not saying everything is going to be sunshine and rainbows if you do you resaerch, or that you will definitely make it, but it will help you more. We want people that are initiative driven that don't mind it when things get hard. That helps weed out the underacheivers.   I'll get the link sent out to you soon. Good luck.   Do  you live near any army installations with aviat...    less

BlackHwk27 I have a few friends of mine who are a part of the aviation unit in Madison. Sounds like a good unit, they came back from deployment this past summer and have all new UH-60M models.

Keith58 45 days until I  get to enjoy the more flight friendly weather of Savannah, GA. The northwest has been scenic, but it is time to move on.

mlanger Great for flying -- unless you're a cherry drying pilot! Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen such a nice, long stretch of perfect weather outside of Arizona.

Keith58 AZ is sooooooo  nice right now. Wish I was flying here. Kinda hard to be on the arrival path of  of RWY 07 of DVT and watching everyone else enjoy this phenomenal flying weather.

hkutcher Give me cold weather over hot any day. Better performance. Doors off is nice, but not when you're drenched in sweat and crawling along hoping for a nice big gust to get you airborne.

I will be moving on at the end of the year as a civilian and will be flying in Alabama teaching at Ft. Rucker. I want to get certified in Robinson so I can enjoy teaching again. I love the army, but they have a tendency to suck the fun out of everything....flying included. I am going to hate to let go of the green suit, but I think flying without all the army BS would be fun. I have had the opportunity to do a lot of fun things, like fly from NC to WA, and some not so fun things. I just love flying. I think the cherry drying would be fine for me. I like working alone at times but enjoy the team aspect too. I will never complain about being in an aircraft. I like to think that besides my own enjoyment, that just by the virtue of being in a helicopter I am providing a service for someone. I'll cut it off here. I could go on much longer but don't want to bore you. lol  less

I'm trying to put together this season now and everything is still up in the air. Yet I'll be on the road to Washington come May. Best of luck to you!

scottswanberg There doesn't seem to be a shortage of rain this year. Methinks it will be a good season for cherry dryers.

Winds almost bested me last year. God alone pulled me out of that one. I love flying over there more. I have more options for forced landing areas over there. Nothing but 150' pines around here. Was fun to get down in the trees when I was a young buck, but time and experience have taught me otherwise.

At its worst, it's a day full of fighting the wind, stirring the cyclic, and dancing on the pedals. Getting occasional 3:30 AM phone calls to make sure you launch at first light and not being able to go out for a beer or have a glass of wine for dinner for months on end gets old quick, too. And did I mention 7 to 11 straight weeks of standby time when you can't be more than 20 minutes away from a helicopter parked on an ag strip or in an orchard in the middle of farm country? Oddly enough, I like it. A good break from the desert and my RV is a very comfortable home away from home.  less
