fly911-Good point! as far as I know all 300cbi's spin counter-clockwise, and lets assume all helicopters do for the sake of this argument.

What I think he meant is that when the aircraft is no longer under power, all the left pedal input (which is no longer required) is going to yaw the helicopter to the left and right pedal must be used to counteract this. I do not think he was talking about the minimal amount of, we'll call it, "right of neutral" pedal that may be required to counteract transmission drag.

Depends what type of helicopter ! Chinook? Kamax? Kamov? RotorWay? Hughes? Astar? Hit the books ! (Just add or take out what you need to keep the heading) Keep it simple.

We need left pedal to counter torque. Remove the torque and what happens? We have a tail rotor that is producing lift, but no force that it is countering, so we get a left yaw. We need right pedal to counter that left yaw. Where the pedals end up to keep us in trim will vary on the aircraft. I really think that was all the DPE was looking for and he was misunderstood.

Yeah, it's not so much that your putting right pedal in as you are taking left pedal out.

I have had this happen to me. NOT fun. When I found out a coworker of mine had done it, got caught and gone to jail, I wanted to punch him. I have no idea what possesses people to do this.

Just once though. The GPS track appeared as a dashed vs. solid line. This happened at City Airport (Coleman Young) in downtown Detroit. All my GPS tracks have been below 2,000 MSL, so I can't comment on higher altitudes. Will post if I experience any further errors.
mlangerI wonder what kind of accuracy difference they're seeing? I don't need it for instrument approaches or anything precise. It's just nice to see where I am on a sectional chart. I don't need it for instrument approaches or anything precise. It's just nice to see where I am on a sectional chart. I have an iPad 2 on order because my original doesn't have 3G/GPS; now you're making me wonder if I should just cancel the order and buy the Bad Elf.
