Got my GoPro Hero 2 the other day! Excited to try it on my next flight. I had gotten the motorsports edition, came with a nice protective case and suction cup mount. My one concern, is how to hook up the audio so i can get it plugged into the intercom system. I was planning to attach the suction cup mount to my helmet, but the camera has to be in the case. Not sure if i can fine a mic port with a small enough head on the plug to fit in the case. Any suggestions?

mlanger GoPro sells a "skeleton" case that does not have sides. You need that to plug in audio and use a case with the mounts. The damn thing costs $40. Your only other alternative is to use it without the case. Not sure how you'd mount it, though. Sorry I can't ...  moreGoPro sells a "skeleton" case that does not have sides. BlackHwk27 Ok, thanks! What do you use for the audio setup?

mlanger I had my mechanic add a 3.5mm audio out port from my intercom system. I use a mono 3.5mm (MP3) cable to connect that to the GoPro. Another possibility is to run a powered lapel mic from the GoPro to the inside of one of your headset ear cups. OR you can get a helicopter to airplane adapter for your headset jack and then get an adapter for the audio out cable to the 3.5mm connection. I've done all three and the direct connection works best. As you may have guessed, I'm a little fanatical about this stuff.

BlackHwk27 Thanks Maria! I appreciate the info. I fly multiple aircraft, so I've managed to locate a "video recorder adapter" for helicopters, going to give it a shot.

mlanger Great! I went nuts looking for one of those. I know they had them at Papillon, but when I called to get info, they had no idea what I was talking about. That should work VERY Well. Good luck!

scottswanberg I drilled a hole in my case for the audio port... Low tech, but it works. Only problem is I seem to have a bad case of the red blotchies on my gopro 2. Seems it's a very common problem. :(

Need to make sure there's no extraneous dust on camera lens or inside camera case that can grab sunlight and make artifacts. Use clean, lint-free cloth. Be careful not to scratch anything. If the problem doesn't go away, you should proabably seek a replacement. I have three of these cameras and none of them have red blotches -- although the color sometimes seems a little overly saturated on the GoPro2.

scottswanberg It's not the lens, Maria. It only happens occasionally, but there is no way to tell until I watch the video afterward. Look on the support forums, there are hundreds of others with the same issue. I plan on getting a replacement.

I hate doing a shoot and thinking I got good video and then finding out there was a problem along the way. Last year, I flew the Columbia River from Quincy to the Coolee Dam -- a distance of at least 100 miles -- and, when I landed, discovered a huge bug smashed onto the lens of my nosecam. Footage from about 1/2 of the flight was worthless. Ugh.
all military has a cut off at 33 years old doesn't it?
The age cut off has changed a bit over the years and rumors are flying about it potentially dropping to 29 in the future. However, as stated you can get an age waiver. It's actually quite common. I know of people in their mid to high 30s going through flight school.

Just want to clarify that it's not entirely true that you must have a degree. There are commissioned officer aviators (lieutenants, captains, etc.) and there are warrant officer aviators. Commissioned officers required a degree, however warrant officers do not require them.
