question for all of you more experieneced pilots

  • Hi everyone,

i was wondering what damage or problems can be cause by flying with the gas cap off?  (besides possibly spillage)  and why isn't there some sort of safety device on the tank like there is in cars that help keep a tank from spilling when a cap is missing.

And yes, i pulled a rookie mistake and got distracted during a preflight and didn't put my cap back on.  Felt like an idiot!!! (and of coarse was flying with the head of the school that day)
