2011 Plans for RotorSpace

  • I want to thank those of you who have sent me feature requests via email, pm, or the comments & suggestions area of the forum. I'm happy to say that RotorSpace 3.0 is currently in development. Version 3.0 is a full scale custom rebuild. I've had far too many headaches with the current framework that powers RS so I have elected to program the entire site myself. It will be fun to put my many years of programming experience to work.

So with that said, I wanted to provide a generalized breakdown of planned features.

    CONTINUED FEATURES
Albums, Blogs, Events, Groups, and Videos.

    MULTI-DEVICE SUPPORT
Device specific optimization for iPhone, iPod, and iPad (my favorite). This list is expected to increase.

    APPS (In Review)
I've had many people ask about creating a RotorSpace App. I'm up for doing it but I'm trying to decide if there would be much benefit to the app versus a device-specific web version. Feedback wanted.

    HELICOPTER NEWS
To provide more content, I plan to incorporate a news section. There will be both hosted news from various news sources or content partners. Users will also be able to submit news. Every news item will support user comments.

    CLASSIFIEDS
Classifieds will be modified (and re-named) to only support sales of aircraft and parts.

    JOBS
    Job board will be added.

    FORUMS (In Review)
I personally enjoy blogs more than forums. Our current forum is not as active as I had planned. Keep it or let it go? I want your feedback.

    STORE
Will start off just selling RotorSpace merchandise. This may grow into a pilot store if there is demand.

    YOUR OWN ROTORSPACE EMAIL ACCOUNT
Would you like to have your own RotorSpace email account? Feedback wanted.

    "FRIENDS" WILL BECOME "FOLLOWERS"
    Similar to Twitter.

    CUSTOMIZABLE DASHBOARD
Drag & Drop, Widgets....all that good stuff.

    ------------
I know I'm probably forgetting something but I will update this blog as things progress. I want to thank all of you for your support of the website. Without you RotorSpace would not be what it is today.

fly911 I'm kind of leaning with mlanger on this one, where less is more. Busy folks like to get in and get out. Not spend a lot of time searching for things on the site. That having been said, I do like it when someone posts a photo or something in a blog or for...  more

mlanger Yes, I like everything easily accessible and visible. I think that if everything appeared on the Home page, it would encourage people to stop in more often to make sure they don't miss anything.

scottswanberg Forums can be a treasure trove of knowledge and experience. Also, it is kind of hard to keep an active discussion going on a blog. More like someone states their opinion, and everyone else reads it. Maybe a comment or two, but they are not really built...  more
